Apex Clean Energy announces the sale of Upland Prairie Wind Project to Alliant Energy

Apex Clean Energy (Apex) announced the sale of the Upland Prairie Wind project to Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy Corporation subsidiary. The 300 MW project is sited on approximately 30,000 acres in the northwest Iowa counties of Clay and Dickinson. Following completion by Apex of all development work, the project will be constructed and operated by Alliant.

“Apex is well-positioned to partner with utilities,” said Mark Goodwin, president and CEO of Apex. “Our development strategy focuses on what utilities prioritize most, including access to transmission, exceptional wind resources, and strong community relationships. As a result, Apex is on track for our best year to date.”

“We are bringing more clean and cost-competitive wind energy to our customers,” said Doug Kopp, president of Alliant Energy’s Iowa energy company. “In addition, this project will add millions of dollars in additional property taxes to the local communities and lease payments to landowners.”

The sale is the second transaction in the Midcontinent ISO for Apex this week, following the announcement of Xcel Energy’s acquisition of the 300 MW Dakota Range I & II projects in South Dakota. Backed by its industry-leading pipeline, Apex anticipates commercialization of 1.5 GW of wind energy in 2017 and increasing commercialization of an additional 2 GW each year through 2020.
