Advantages of Nuclear Energy

Before we extrapolate the advantages of Nuclear Energy, it is crucial to take into account the meaning of Nuclear Energy thereby understanding its reference.

Nuclear Energy is essentially the energy extracted from the nucleus of an atom either as an implication of nuclear fission or fusion. Nucleus primarily consists of two particles namely the proton  that carries the positive charge and the neutron which is electrically neutral in nature. It is to be noted that Nuclear energy is not extracted from the ground therefore abstains from contributing to hazardous emissions.

Nuclear energy is generated mainly due to fission and fusion. Nuclear fission manage to produce over 10 million times the energy produced by fossil fuel combustion. Nuclear fusion on the other hand is able to generate humongous amounts of energy.

Noteworthy Nuclear Energy Advantages –

  1. Impeccable based- load electricity- Nuclear reactors produce power over 90% of the time. The duration between refueling has been augmented considerably, plus downtime for refueling has been lessened .  Most nuclear reactors are designed to operate for more than 40 years. Most of the reactors are nearing that age in perfect condition and projections are that they could still operate for another 20 years.
  2. Zero emission of Greenhouse gas emissions– Net emission is negligible as compared to fossil fuels emission.
  3. Cost of nuclear power is just competitive. On the other hand, the cost of power extracted from fossil fuel is pretty much volatile.
  4. Nuclear energy is encapsulated entailing a smaller area of land as compared to wind turbines and solar- cells thus rendering it space-friendly
  5.  Nuclear power plants are safe as present day nuclear power plants are independent of the past disasters and external electricity supplies or external water supplies for the purpose of cooling. they utilize water fed by gravity, gas pressurized water tanks, and natural convection heat exchangers. These systems are referred to as ‘’passive safety systems.” Another advantage is the reactors can be installed underground offering added insulation against unauthorized access and external hazards
  6.  Cost of operation are minimal
  7. Cutting-edge and breakthrough technologies have made Nuclear energy more efficient than other alternative energy sources. Feasibility is taken into account and considered viable than most other options.
