Veolia to decommission and recycle several oil platforms in England

Veolia and its partner Peterson will dismantle and recycle offshore oil platforms at the end of their operational life at their Great Yarmouth site in England.

The objective is to recycle 96% of the materials.

“These new contracts show collaboration in action right down the supply chain. Our partnership with Peterson has worked well at a number of sites and projects over the last ten years, and we are very pleased to have secured all the contracts into Great Yarmouth,” said Simon Davies, Decommissioning General Manager of Veolia in the UK & Ireland.

“We have been working hard on this development since 2013. These contract awards are a significant milestone and step towards establishing Great Yarmouth as a centre of excellence for decommissioning in the Southern North Sea”, added Ron van der Laan, Peterson’s Regional Director.

Over the last 10 years Veolia and Peterson have provided onshore decommissioning services including decontamination, deconstruction, waste management and environmental services together with associated integrated logistics, marine and quayside services. To date the joint venture has recovered over 80,000 tonnes of offshore materials with ‘excellent’ environmental assessment ratings. The launch of the new oil platform decommissioning operations will help create 10 new jobs at Great Yarmouth Outer Harbour. Additional jobs are likely to be created as the projects develop.
