Tata Power Delhi and GIZ Sign Cooperation Agreement

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi to explore possibilities of collaboration at electric utility level. The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power-DDL and Mr. Joerg Gaebler, Principal Advisor, GIZ.

The purpose of the MoU is to work jointly for the achievement of common goals and utility objectives related to promotion of grid connected solar rooftop PV, Energy Storage System, Electric Vehicle and Smart Grid Initiatives, conduct researches and studies related to the above areas and organize capacity building programs jointly for channel partners, project developers, financial institutions, government departments, distribution utilities, PSUs etc.

On signing of the MoU, Mr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power–DDL said, “The collaboration with an institution like GIZ will provide impetus towards adoption of clean, efficient and smart technology in the utility space. We are confident that the collaboration will help us to learn and achieve a greener and sustainable solutions. As a leading power distribution company, Tata Power Delhi Distribution has introduced several firsts in the distribution sector and is sharing its domain knowledge with other Utilities. The usage of energy efficient technology is a unique and cost-effective solution to our consumers to optimize operational efficiency and thereby help us to provide them value added services.

Mr. Joerg Gaebler, Principal Advisor, GIZ said, “We expect the collaboration with Tata Power-DDL will help us in designing and implementing tailored solutions by developing a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by distribution utilities in promoting mature clean technologies like rooftop photovoltaics. We are proud to state that Tata Power DDL is the first utility in India officially joining GIZ in the effort of installing 5 GW of distributed solar power by promoting standardized rooftop PV systems for the broader mass by the year 2022. That initiative by the Government of India – Ministry of New and Renewable Energy – will further spread nationally.”

The MoU aims to pave way for technical cooperation between the two organizations for mitigating climate change by promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy measures.
