Mitsubishi and KEPCO’s new venture promotes Biomass Power generation in Japan

Aioi Bioenergy Corporation, a new joint venture of Mitsubishi Corporation Power System and The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. is set up to promote and develop biomass Power generation in Japan. The initial capital of 450 Million Yen, with 40% of that being invested by Mitsubishi.

The projects aim is to facilitate the conversion of fuel used at KEPCO’s Aioi 375 MW Power Station in Hyogo Prefecture from its current heavy/crude oil sources to woody biomass. The project will also contribute in controlling overall CO2 due to its use of naturally derived pellet fuel.

Mitsubishi subsidiary, MCP already operates some 73 MW of power generated from solar projects and is developing and constructing wind and geothermal power generation projects across Japan.
