Exelon Appoints Thomas S. O’Neill as Senior VP & General Counsel

Exelon announced that Thomas S. O’Neill has been promoted to senior vice president and general counsel.

O’Neill was formerly senior vice president, Energy and Regulatory Policy and general counsel at Exelon utility ComEd.

While at ComEd, O’Neill played a key role in the development and passage of two major pieces of Illinois legislation, the Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act of 2011 and the Future Energy Jobs Bill, passed in 2016. Prior to joining ComEd, O’Neill served as senior vice president and Chief Operating Officer of Exelon Transmission Company, and held leadership roles with Exelon Nuclear Partners and Exelon Nuclear.

In his new role, which he assumed on January 1, O’Neill will serve as the top legal advisor to Exelon’s senior management and oversee the company’s legal and corporate governance departments. O’Neill replaces Darryl Bradford, who retired at the end of 2016 after a 13-year career with the company.  O’Neill will report to William A. Von Hoene, Jr., Exelon’s senior executive vice president and Chief Strategy Officer.

“Tom’s broad knowledge of the business, strategic approach and proven leadership will be a great asset to the company as we continue to lead the transformation of the energy industry through a focus on innovation, technology and investment in smart energy infrastructure,” said Chris Crane, president and CEO, Exelon.

O’Neill received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and his law degree from University of Notre Dame Law School.
