Belo Monte Hydro Plant capacity reaches 3.2GW after its 11th turbine Operational

Norte Energia announced that operating capacity of under construction 11.2 GW Bel Monte Hydro plant has reached to 3.2GW after its new installed 11th turbine is successfully online.

The new installed 11th turbine is a 611-MW unit which is one of 18 Francis turbine-generator units to be installed in one powerhouse.

Belo Monte is a US$ 26 billion project being built on the Xingu River in Brazil’s northern Para State and will be the world’s third largest hydroelectric complex when completed. The project is expected to be fully operational till January 2019.However it is not clear that how much the recent suspension of the operating license for the Belo Monte project will affect progress on the project or the planned completion date.
