ASIA POWER WEEK 2017: Bringing Together Global Energy

Experts to Address Challenges and Find Solutions that will Shape the Way to Thailand 4.0Plan

30 August 2017 – Bangkok – The premier international power industry conference and exhibition, Asia Power Week 2017, celebrates 25 consecutive years as the premier power industry event comprising POWER-GEN Asia and Renewable Energy World Asia will be happening in Bangkok during 19-21 September 2017 at BITEC with the highlight topic to promote “the transition to a low carbon, high-efficiency energy future”. Supporting Thailand to move towards sustainable energy future under the Thailand 4.0 policy.

Nigel Blackaby, Director of International Conferences, PennWell Corporation added his opinion on the energy industry in Thailand “The ASEAN region has great potential in becoming the global leader in alternative energy production, especially in the solar power segment, geographically blessed countries like Thailand, enjoy a large amount of sunlight and many are starting to put these resources to use. With an installed power-generating capacity of 2,768 MW1, Thailand is already the largest producer of solar energy in Southeast Asia and according to Business Monitor International (BMI) solar power can possibly contribute over 51% to the total renewable power mix by 20252 and non-hydro renewables capacity increasing by an annual average of 4% between 2017 and 2026. Thailand will be an outperformer in the Southeast Asia region in terms of total installed renewables capacity over the coming decade. We believe Asia Power Week will be the leading force in delivering a platform to help boost up renewable energy and share information on the challenges facing the power industry and discuss solutions for advancing Asia’s energy future”

Furthermore, according to Thailand Power Development Plan 2015-2035 and Energy 4.0, the government aims to improve power system reliability by reducing dependence on natural gas power generation and shifting to alternative energy sources like biomass, biogas, wind and solar power.3

“Thailand was among the first countries in Asia to aggressively promote a broad spectrum of utility-scale renewables, and since has built up substantial private sector capacity, now being deployed for solar grid-parity schemes, across Thailand’s commercial rooftops, and through leading solar and wind project investments overseas”. Jeremy Wilcox, Chief Executive, Commodity Management Services

“We are very excited to be returning to Bangkok for our 25th gathering. We believe that the combination of POWER-GEN Asia and Renewable Energy World Asia under the Asia Power Week will let us reach the industry as a whole and encourage networking, business and knowledge sharing across the whole spectrum of the power generation industry and moreover with the support of Ministry of Energy, their useful insights will also help empower conference. Asia Power Week will be regarded as part of Thailand’s initiatives to carry out the policy of sustainable energy 4.0. The support from Ministry of Energy will enable participants to reach out to the entire industry to encourage networking, business and knowledge-sharing across the whole spectrum of the power generation industry.” Dr. Heather Johnstone, Asia Power Week Event Director, added.

Held at the BITEC on 19-21 September 2017, Asia Power Week will be the leading force in delivering a platform for the power industry to meet, share information on the challenges facing the power industry and discuss solutions for advancing Asia’s energy future. The three-day long event will also boast a large exhibition floor, with an expected 200+ exhibitors demonstrating the latest and leading technologies and solutions, and delivering a quality audience and experience to all who attend, in terms of high-level networking and business opportunities.
