ABB clinched contract from JPS

ABB which is a Swiss technology company has clinched an order from Jamaica Public Service Company to supply its micro grid and storage system that attempts to advocate the integration of renewable solar and wind energy into Jamaica’s power supply.

JPS president and CEO Emanuel DaRosa said: “This is one of the most significant projects to be undertaken by JPS this year and will be a model for other countries in the Caribbean and beyond. ABB’s innovative technology will enable us to leverage clean renewables into our energy mix while securing grid stability and ensuring reliable power supply to consumers.”

The company is said to have already integrated around 160MW of renewable sources into the power grid so far. The 24.5MW microgrid and energy storage system supplied to Jamaica ensures power availability when solar and wind sources are interrupted due to cloud cover, reduced wind or other factors.

It is to be noted that Jamaica’s commercial establishments and residential areas are situated 500 miles southeast of Cuba, that rely heavily on imported fossil fuels.
